Sou Fujimoto - Many Small Cubes 2014
Sou Fujimoto is a celebrated Japanese Architect who known for his daring and innovative structures. Many Small Cubes is a tribute to his ability to create pieces of art and architecture that challenge our views and perception of volume and architecture. This installation is constructed of numerous aluminum cubes, however each cube is regarded as it own and plays a very important role in maintaining the structure and stability of the composition. the volume of cubes inforce a defined sense of stability and balance, however the placement and varying scale promotes a sense of united randomness. Many Small Cubes 'was presented for FIAC — an artistic program which sees the creation of both gallery-based and public creative projects — the floating volumes that comprise ‘many small cubes’ create ‘a new experience of space, a rhythm of flickering shadows and lights like the sun filtering through leafy trees’ (Doomage, 2014).
